First, let me say, I cannot believe it has been two months since I have posted! I’ve been, um, well, busy. That’s it. Busy.
Truthfully, I have been busy. Our family’s schedule seems to have just exploded. I really don’tknow how else to put it. We just never seem to sit still. Which is nice, until you wake up one day and realize you are simply exhausted. So, how do you fight that exhaustion? Cookies. That’s my solution. But, I digress. This post is not about cookies (you’re shocked, aren’t you?).
In the last two months, my little one turned one. I just cannot believe it has been a year since she came into the world. It has certainly been a hectic year of little sleep and new firsts. We’ve gone through another milk allergy and elimination diet for me. We’ve dealt with waking every two hours for months on end. And, we’ve dealt with a bit of sibling rivalry as her older sister is often jealous. But, we’ve also seen our little blessing laugh, crawl, pull up, say her first word and start playing with her sister. Both of my girls giggle and laugh whenever they spot one another and it is the sweetest sound in the world to this mama. Ahh, somehow all those sleepless nights don’t seem so bad anymore.
For my little Bug’s party, we decided to do it at a local petting zoo. I learned after my older daughter’s first birthday to never hold it in my house. I like coming home to a quiet, clean home. Except, really, it doesn’t often end up being clean as every party’s prep comes down to the wire. But, for this party, I decided to go with a non-zoo theme for the party. After all, the animals were obvious. We didn’t also need to eat zebra stripes to know we were at the zoo. So, I did everything in a rainbow stripe. I’ll be doing the individual components as additional posts, but I just wanted to share at least part of the celebration with you now.
If you’re in the DC area, I highly recommend the Reston Petting Zoo. The staff were wonderful, and even though it rained on us a bit, we had a fantastic time riding ponies, going on a safari ride and petting alligators and bunnies.
*As a disclaimer, I had every intention of taking wonderful photos, but got distracted and am relying on ones my mother-in-law took with her iPhone*
This cake is not as complicated as it looks, but it’s definitely not “easy” either!
These were my favorite part of the party. I’ve seen cake pops in a couple places, but nothing like this, so it was really just a concept in my head. I’m glad it worked because there was no time to change course!
